Liu Jinguo, vice-minister of public security, has been appointed deputy head of the 610 Office, the central government agency responsible for combating cults¹ and handling cult-related issues.

公安部副部长刘金国被任命为中央防范和处理邪教问题领导小组610办副组长。

中央防范和处理邪教问题领导小组办公室，简称防范办（cult-busting office），又称“中央610办公室”（设于1999年6月10日），主要负责有关防范和处理邪教组织（cults organizations）和对社会有危害的气功组织（Qigong organizations）问题的调查研究。

公安大学犯罪调查系主任戴鹏表示，邪教是不人性的（inhuman）、反社会的（anti-social）、违反宪法的（unconstitutional），它不是宗教，而是异端邪说（heterodoxy）。邪教经常涉及暴力犯罪（violent crimes）、钱财诈骗（money fraud）和性虐待（sex abuse），严重威胁社会安全和稳定（pose a serious threat to social security and stability）。
