小蜗牛问妈妈：“为什么我们从出生那天开始就得背着又硬又重的壳？”
妈妈说：“因为我们的身体没有骨头作支撑，我们爬不快，所以我们需要这壳来保护自
己。”
小蜗牛说：“毛毛虫姐姐也没有骨头，也爬不快，为什么人家就不背着又硬又重的壳
呢？”
妈妈说：“因为她会变成蝴蝶，天空会保护她。”
小蜗牛说：“可是蚯蚓哥哥也没有骨头，也爬不快，将来也不变成蝴蝶，为什么人家不
背着又硬又重的壳呢？”
妈妈回答：“因为他会向泥土深处挖去，泥土会保护他呀。”
小蜗牛哭着说：“我们真可怜，天空和泥土都不保护我们。”
妈妈安慰他说：“所以我们有壳呀！我们不靠天也不靠地，我们就靠自己！”
