The Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN was established in 1967 in Bangkok. Today there are eleven members. The population of the region is about 500 million people. Membership includes Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines and Singapore.  ASEAN’s goals are to enhance economic growth, social progress and cultural development throughout the region. In addition ASEAN aims to promote regional peace and stability through relationship building. ASEAN makes reference to the United Nations Charter as their guiding principles. 　　东南亚国家联盟（东盟）是1967年在曼谷建立的。致今它已拥有11个成员。这个地区的有近五十亿人口。成员国包括泰国、柬埔寨、老挝、越南、文莱、印尼、马来西亚、缅甸、菲律宾和新加坡。东盟的目标是促进区域间的经济增长，社会进程和文化发展。另外，东盟还致力与通过建立广泛关系来推动地区的和平和稳定。东盟借鉴联合国宪章制定他们的指导原则。
