　　The 14th Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Seventh National People's Congress has decided³ to make supplementary⁴ provisions to the Criminal Law： Whoever desecrates⁵ the National Flag or the National Emblem⁶ of the People's Republic of China by publicly and wilfully⁷ burning， mutilating， scrawling⁸ on， defiling⁹， or trampling¹⁰ upon it shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment¹¹ of not more than three years， criminal detention¹²， public surveillance or deprivation¹³ of political rights.
