The trend of semicolon tattoos² was started by Project Semicolon. It encourages people to draw (or tattoo¹) semicolons on their bodies as a way of presenting hope and love to those struggling with depression, anxiety, suicide, self-harm and other forms of mental illness.

分号纹身的潮流最初由“分号项目”发起，鼓励人们在身上画或是纹上“分号”，借此向那些正与抑郁、焦虑、自杀倾向、自残等精神疾病抗争的人们传达希望和关爱的讯息。

 

Project Semicolon's website explains the idea behind the tattoo: "A semicolon is used when an author could've chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you and the sentence is your life."

“分号项目”的官方网站解释了分号纹身背后的理念：“作家在可以结束语句的情况下，却选择不划下句点，这时就需要用到分号。现在，你是作家，语句则是你的生命。”

 

People who suffer from mental illness all over the world are now tattooing³ the mark as a reminder⁴ of their struggle, victory, and survival.

如今，世界各地患有精神疾病的人们将分号纹到身上，以此纪念自己的抗争、胜利和幸存。
