work up to (doing something) 做好心理准备（办事）

如果在想做什么事情的时候，感觉到有一定压力并需要做好思想准备，这种状态可以用 work up to (something) 来表达。

 

例句

It took me ages to work up to asking her out, but once I did, I was so relieved¹ that she said yes.

I can't just ask my dad for more money. I need to work up to it, think about the right way to put it.
