  The Last Rose of Summer

The last rose of summer
Left blooming alone;

All her lovely companions
Are faded and gone;

No flower of her kindred,
No rose-bud is nigh,

to reflect back her blushes,
Or give sigh for sigh.

I'll not leave thee, thou lone¹ one!
To pine on the stem;

Since the lovely are sleeping,
Go, sleep thou with them.

thus kindly² I scatter³
Thy leaves o'er the bed

Where thy mates of the garden
Lie scentless⁴ and dead.

Soon may I follow,
When friendships decay,

And from Love's shining circle
The gems⁵ drop away.

When true hearts lie withered⁶,
And fond ones are flown,

O! who would inhabit
This bleak⁷ world alone?

夏日最后的玫瑰
独自绽放着；

所有昔日动人的同伴
都已凋落残逝；

身旁没有同类的花朵，
没有半个玫瑰苞，

映衬她的红润，
分担她的忧愁。

我不会离开弧零零的你！
让你单独地憔悴；

既然美丽的同伴都已入眠，
去吧！你也和她们一起躺着。

为此，我好心地散放
你的丽叶在花床上

那儿，也是你花园的同伴
无声无息躺着的地方。

不久我也可能追随我朋友而去，
当友谊渐逝，

像从灿烂之爱情圈中
掉落的宝石。

当忠诚的友人远去，
所爱的人飞走，

啊！谁还愿留在
这荒冷的世上独自凄凉？
