　70年代初期，美国拍出了多部脍炙人口的灾难片，如「大地震」、「火烧摩天楼」、「海神号」等，和90年代完全以特效见长的灾难片不同（龙卷风、天崩地裂），当时的灾难片，通常都有一大票的当红大明星参与演出，一旦灾难发生，死的死，逃的逃，有贪生怕死的，有舍身取义的，所谓的人性，在此时展露无疑。
　这首The morning after 便是「海神号」的主题曲。该片是取材自历史有名的铁达尼号沉没事件，一艘号称当时最豪华的邮轮，船上载满了参与首航的名流权贵，不料船在中途撞上暗礁而翻覆，欢乐旅程成了死亡之旅，幸存的人们在船舱中相互扶持，寻找生路，度过他们一生中最恐怖的一夜，其歌词很明显是描述这群人渴望见到黎明的心境。
　演唱者Maureen McGovern除这首畅销曲外，还演唱了「火烧摩天楼」的主题曲：We may never love like this again。很巧的是，这两首歌都出自同样两位词曲作者的手笔，而且两首歌都获得奥斯卡最佳电影主题曲的荣誉。遗憾的是Maureen McGovern 的星运，随着70年代末灾难片的式微而淡出歌坛。
