On His Seventy-Fifth Birthday

　　I strove with none,

　　for none was worth my strife².

　　Nature I loved,

　　and next to Nature, Art.

　　I warmed both hands

　　before the fire of life；

　　It sinks,

　　and I am ready to depart.
