　　he that loves a rosy cheek

　　or a coral lip admires，

　　or from star-like eyes doth seek

　　fuel to maintain his fires；

　　as old time makes these decay，

　　so his flames must waste away.

　　but a smooth and steadfast² mind，

　　gentle thoughts，and calm desires，

　　hearts with equal love combined，

　　kindle³ never-dying fires；——

　　where these are not，i despise

　　lovely cheek or lips or eyes.

　　颊如玫瑰红，

　　唇如珊瑚赤，

　　星眼珠耀然，

　　有人为之热；

　　迟暮具凋零，

　　热情亦衰竭。

　　心平气亦和，

　　宁静而谦抑，

　　一视能同仁，

　　爱之永不灭；——

　　颊唇眼何益？
