Sudan has released Islamist opposition¹ leader Hassan al-Turabi, his secretary has said.

Hassan al-Turabi was once a close colleague of President Bashir

Mr Turabi has spent a month and a half in detention²（拘留） after authorities arrested him in May and closed his party's newspaper.

His wife alleged³（宣称） he had been apprehended⁴（逮捕，理解） after he repeated an allegation that the country's elections had been rigged（操纵，控制） .

President Omar al-Bashir was re-elected in April.

Critics say the elections - the first multi-party polls since 1986 - were marred⁵ by fraud and irregularities（不规则，谬误） .

"Turabi has arrived at his home... We do not know why he has been released," secretary Awad Babiker told Reuters.

Mr Turabi, a former ally of the president, has been detained on numerous occasions since he began his Popular Congress Party.
