A general election will be held in Malaysia on 5 May, the Election Commission said, in what is seen as a major test for Prime Minister Najib Razak's ruling coalition1.

On Saturday, he unveiled his manifesto5 pledging cash for the poor and more affordable6 living costs.
 
Opinion polls suggest a narrow win for the National Front, and Mr Najib faces pressure to return the party to its two-thirds majority in parliament.
