1. call a halt to sth. / call a halt **请求或要求停止；停止前进；停止进攻

例 The President called a halt to the war exactly 100 hours after it started. Many military

officers blamed him for caring too much about the “packaging” of the war and not enough about

achieving the goal of eliminating the enemy.

2. call a meeting **召开会议

例 Mr. Jiang has called a meeting for tomorrow at 3:30 PM in the executive conference

room. All branch managers are expected to attend. If you cannot attend （and it had better be for a

really good reason） please fax this office by close of business today （we finish daily at 5:00

PM, so before 5:00）.

3. call a spade a spade **直言不讳，实话实说
