border inspection 边境检查

International delegations¹ arriving in Shanghai for the upcoming World Expo would be entitled to special passage for swift border inspection² as the metropolis³ gears up for the final run-up to the international event.

在世博会的最后准备阶段，上海将为陆续抵达的外国参展团提供专用通道实行快速边境检查。

在上面的报道中，border inspection即“边境检查”，简称“边检”。Border是“边境，边界”的意思，例如：redraw the border（重划疆界）。Inspection表示“检查，检验”，例如：On closer inspection the notes proved to be forgeries⁴.（经进一步仔细查看，发现这些钞票是伪造的。）

除了边境检查，地铁也需要加强security check（安检）。在security checkpoint（安检口）都会设有X-ray machine（X光机）看旅客是否携带了forbidden items（违禁物品）。同样为了确保产品质量安全，对产品也要进行inspection，部分优质商品可获得national inspection exemption⁵（国家免检）证书。
