World number one golf player Tiger Woods has been ousted¹ by fellow Ameircan Chad Campbell in Friday's third round matchup at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.

Woods, bidding for his third title of the year in four starts, struggled with his putting on the front nine before losing a tight battle with Chad Campbell by a hole.

Defending champion David Toms and Phil Mickelson also went out on the day of upsets at a sun-drenched La Costa Resort² and Spa.

Left-hander Mickelson, who never led at any stage of his match with Britain's David Howell, was beaten 3 and 1, while Toms, who had led by one after five holes, lost on scores as the Ryder Cup captain of the United States Tom Lehman fought back and sealed a 4and 3 win with a 15-foot birdie putt at the 15th.
