Fandom (consisting of fan plus the suffix¹ -dom, as in kingdom, freedom, etc.) is a term used to refer to a subculture composed of fans characterized by a feeling of sympathy and camaraderie² with others who share a common interest.

 

Fandom（就是fan加后缀dom，像kingdom和freedom一样）指由粉丝构成的一种亚文化现象，这些粉丝拥有共同的兴趣爱好并且彼此之间存在一种志趣相投的友情。我们称之为“粉丝圈”。

 

A fandom can grow up centered around any area of human interest or activity. The subject of fan interest can be narrowly defined, focused on something like an individual celebrity³, or more widely defined, encompassing⁴ entire hobbies, genres⁵ or fashions. While it is now used to apply to groups of people fascinated with any subject, the term has its roots in those with an enthusiastic appreciation⁶ for sports. The usage of the term can be traced back as far as 1903.

Fandom as a term can also be used in a broad sense to refer to the interconnected social networks of individual fandoms, many of which overlap⁷.
