WALL · E pulled EVE inside his truck and closed the door tight. EVE looked around, intrigued¹ by WALL · E's many collections.

 

WALL · E sensed her interest and proudly began to give her a tour. First, he handed her an eggbeater. As he looked for something else to show her, EVE spun² the eggbeater faster and faster, until it whirled itself into pieces. Uh-oh. EVE quickly hid it, not wanting WALL · E to see what she had done.

 

But WALL · E had his mind on something else: the clear plastic wrap that had bubbles in it. Once again, EVE seemed delighted. He showed her how to pop the bubbles, then handed it to her and popped a few more bubbles encouragingly. She tried it, and then began a rapid-fire popping. In seconds, the entire sheet was deflated³. This was fun!

 

And then WALL · E handed her his prized Hello, Dolly! Videocassette—not expecting that she would pull the tape out of it! Emitting a high-pitched beep, WALL · E grabbed the cassette from EVE and carefully reeled the tape back inside. Terrified that it might not work, he inserted the cassette in his video player.

 

After an anxious moment of staring at his television, WALL · E saw his beloved characters appear on the screen, singing and dancing.

 

Relieved, WALL · E shuffled⁴ back and forth⁵ on his treads and mimicked⁶ the dancing for EVE. Extending his hand to the floor, he encouraged her to try, too.

 

EVE fell—THUNK!—to the floor and bounced back up again. WALL · E then tried a move he hoped would be less dangerous. He spun with his little shovel⁷ arms extended outward. EVE happily imitated him—but with a massive force that quickly sent her whirling out of control! KLANK! EVE accidentally propelled WALL · E into a wall of shelves. As he fell to the floor, his head clanged like a bell.

 

EVE gasped⁸. One of WALL · E's binocular-like eyes was hanging loose.

 

WALL · E calmly reassured⁹ the distraught EVE. He felt his way through a pile of spare WALL · E-unit parts. Then he popped in a spare eye and brightly turned to EVE. Good as new!

 

As they continued exploring WALL · E's collections, EVE amazed WALL · E by producing a flame from an old lighter¹⁰. As they stared at the flame, WALL · E realized he had never been this close to EVE. He looked up at her, the flame flickering¹¹ between them. In the background, his favorite song from Hello, Dolly! played.

 

WALL · E reached for EVE's hand. Maybe now he could finally hold hands with her.

 

EVE turned to look at him, but WALL · E panicked and pulled his hand back, pretending to retrieve¹² something from the floor.

 

Still, he wasn't about to give up. As EVE continued to stare at the television screen, WALL · E scurried¹³ off. There was one more thing that might win EVE's approval. It was the undisputed masterpiece of his many collections. He tapped her on the shoulder and held up the plant.

 

EVE's blue light immediately locked onto it. Her chest opened. WALL · E was shocked to see a tractor beam suddenly shoot from EVE's chest and envelop¹⁴ the plant. The beam had pulled the plant into a compartment¹⁵ in EVE's chest. Her panel doors slammed, and her system shut down altogether! Only a single green light remained pulsing on her chest.

 

"Eee-vah?" WALL · E said numbly¹⁶. He shook her gently but got no response.

 

WALL · E panicked. "Eee-vah?Eee-vah!" he cried.

然后瓦力把他最珍视的《你好，多莉！》录像带递给她，却没有料到她会将磁带拽出来！瓦力尖叫一声，从伊芙手中抢过录像带，小心翼翼地将磁带绕回盒子里面。由于害怕录像带无法播放，他把它放进他的录像机里。

 

瓦力焦虑地盯着电视机等了一会儿，终于看见他喜爱的人物出现在屏幕上，载歌载舞。

 

瓦力松了一口气，踩着履带笨拙地前后摇晃，模仿跳舞给伊芙看。他将手伸向地板，鼓励她也试试。

 

伊芙“铛”的一声摔在地板上，又跳起身来。然后瓦力尝试了一种他希望没那么危险的舞步。他将铁铲手臂伸向两侧，开始旋转。伊芙很高兴地模仿他，但是她转得太猛，很快便失去了控制。“叮当！”伊芙无意中推得瓦力撞上一排搁板。当他摔到地板上时，他的脑袋就像铃铛一样叮当作响。

 

伊芙倒吸了一口气。瓦力望远镜似的双眼中有一只脱落了下来。

 

瓦力镇定地让焦虑不安的伊芙不必担心。他摸索着在一堆地球垃圾分装装置零配件中寻找，取出一只备用眼睛安了上去，然后欢快地转向伊芙。就像新的一样！

 

他们继续探索瓦力的藏品。伊芙打着了一个旧打火机，火焰蹿了出来，这让瓦力十分惊奇。他们盯着火焰看的时候，瓦力意识到他从未这么靠近过伊芙。他抬头看着她，火焰在他俩之间闪烁。隐约传来《你好，多莉！》中他最喜欢的歌曲。

 

瓦力伸手去拉伊芙的手。也许现在他终于能和她手牵手了。

 

伊芙扭头看着他，但是瓦力感到十分惊慌，把手缩了回去，假装从地板上捡东西。

 

但是，他仍不准备放弃。在伊芙盯着电视屏幕看的时候，瓦力匆匆走开。还有一件东西可能获得伊芙的赞赏。毫无疑问那是他众多藏品中最好的。他拍了拍她的肩膀，举起那株植物。

 

伊芙的蓝光立刻锁定在它上面。她的胸部打开了。瓦力看见伊芙的胸部突然射出一道牵引光束笼罩着那株植物，大吃一惊。那道光束将那株植物拉到伊芙胸部的隔间内。她胸前面板的门都“砰”地关上了，整个系统也都关闭了！只有一盏绿色的灯还在她胸前闪动。

 

“伊——娃？”瓦力呆呆地说道。他轻轻摇动她，但她没有任何回应。

 

瓦力恐慌了。“伊——娃？伊——娃！”他大声叫道。
