Beijing managed to eliminate Shanghai in a semifinal of women's soccer tournament at the 10th National Games Thursday and is to meet Liaoning in the final Saturday.
The semifinal between Beijing and Shanghai, both of which were considered candidates for the champion, was expected as a game of final level.
The two teams were well-matched in the clash until the deadlock1 was broken in the 70th minute when midfielder Pan Lina scored for Shanghai with a long drive. But the advantage was equalized nine minutes later with Chen Yanhong's score for the Beijingers.
In the 90th minute, midfielder Liu Ying scored again for Beijing. However, the soon-to-be-achieved victory was taken away by Pu Wei who scored for Shanghai in the injury time, finishing the match 2-2 in regular time.
A penalty shootout was carried out after a goalless overtime2 play. Beijing overwhelmed Shanghai 5-4.
In another semifinal held earlier Thursday, Liaoning defeated host Jiangsu 1-0.
Attacking midfielder Fan Tingting scored a lone3 goal in the match in the 25th minute, helping4 the visitors win over the host.
