There was a person who made his living with his excellent acrobatic（杂技的） skills in the state of Song. He once purposely went to the palace to perform his specialty¹ for King Yuan of the state of Song. The King was amazed by his performance and rewarded him with a lot of things.

 

Another actor heard of this and offered to perform for the King too. Knowing this, the king became furious and said, "Last time I was in a good mood, so I gave out a lot of largess. You must have come for the rewards. I loathe²（讨厌） this type of person like you very much."

 

After saying this, the king ordered his arrest. By the time this unfortunate actor was released, a whole month had passed.

 

宋国有一个靠高超的杂技技艺为生的人，特地进宫去给宋元君表演自己的专长，宋元君看后，十分惊讶，赏赐给他许多东西。

 

另一个艺人听说这件事后，也要求给宋元君专场演出。宋元君听说后，大发雷霆，说：“上次正赶上我心情愉快，所以赏赐得多了一些。你肯定也是冲着赏赐来的。我对你这种人最为厌恶。”

 

说完后，宋元君下令把他关起来。一个月后，这个倒霉的艺人才被放出来。
