More than 11m smartphones were infected by mobile viruses sent from the pseudo base stations in the first six months of the year, according to data released by Tencent. 

腾讯数据显示，今年上半年，伪基站发送的手机病毒感染了超过1100万台智能手机。

 

这种被私人收购、用于发送大量垃圾短信（spam message）的基站（base station）就是伪基站。这些垃圾短信五花八门，有的是投资建议（investment advice），有的是中奖通知（notifications of winning a prize in a lottery），有的是促销短信（promotional messages）。而且由于短信是由基站发出，会让人乍一看误以为是内容真实的短信。
