The first two female reserve astronauts, one of whom is likely to go into space on board Shenzhou IX and become China's first female astronaut, have to meet the same criteria¹ as the men, said a senior medical expert from the astronaut selection panel.

 

航天员评选委员会的一名高级医学专家称，两位女性航天员候选人的评选标准和男性一样。这两位候选人中有一位很可能会登上神州九号飞船进入太空，成为中国首位女性航天员。

 

上面报道中的reserve astronaut就是“航天员候选人”，reserve在这儿意为“储备的、备用的”，例如：a reserve supply of food（食物供给储备）。Reserve在金融术语中表示“储备金”，如forex reserve pool（外汇储备库）；这个词用在足球比赛中还可表示“替补的”，如reserve player（替补队员）。

 

选拔航天员候选人十分严格，有body odor（体臭）、bad breath（口臭）、chronic sore throats（慢性咽炎）、ringworm（癣）, cavities（蛀牙）等普通疾病的都算不合格。另外，航天员候选人的家人也得出示证明其无contagious disease（传染病）的clean bill of health（健康证明）。
