❶ “to start with”在这里用来强调要列举或陈述的事实或观点的第一个，可译
为“首 先”， 例 如： There are problems. To start with, neither of us likes
housework.（有几个问题。首先，我们没有谁喜欢干家务活。）另外，“to
start with”还可用于谈论某种情况开始时的状况（尤其该情况后来发生变
化），可译为“开始的时候”，例如：I was pretty nervous to start with, but after
a while I was fine.（刚开始的时候我还挺紧张的，但过了一会儿就没事
了。）
❷ “as far as I know”意为“据我所知”，例如：As far as I know, that is highly
