Chinanews, Beijing, Mar1. 26 – Twenty-one environmental organizations, including the Global Village of Beijing and the Friends of Nature, recently launched a campaign called “Green Choice” that urges consumers to refuse to buy goods made by high-polluting manufacturers. The campaign aims to squeeze these high polluting manufacturers out of the market or put pressure on them so that they can make goods in a more environmental friendly way, the Guangming Daily reported.
The environmental organizations have found 5,000 companies involved in pollutants2 releasing activities. The names of these companies are publicized on the website of the Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs. At the same time, the environmental organizations urge large retailers3 and companies to better manage their supply chain by rejecting the goods made by companies appearing on the “blacklist.” With this campaign, consumers can not only urge manufacturers to shoulder their environmental responsibilities, they can also help environmental departments to effectively control polluting sources so as to create a fair market environment for companies that meet their environmental requirements, said Mu Guangfeng, deputy head of the Environmental Assessment4 Department under the State Environmental Protection Administration.
