Chinanews, Hangzhou, May 22 - "Most countries in the world are in great demand of engineers. Take the US as an example, which needs at least 15,000 senior engineers. It is even said that 40% of employers in the world today are searching for capable engineers," said Pan Yunhe, vice1 president of Chinese Academy of Engineering, in a speech at the Zhejiang University on May 21.

"Thus it might be a good chance for Chinese engineers," said Pan.

Currently, there are some 36 million scientific and technical personnel in China, No.1 in the world. About 10 million of them are engineers, not including those who are studying engineering in colleges.

Besides, China is witnessing a rapid industrialization process, which offers precious chances for engineers to practice and develop. "Not many countries in the world can offer such chances," said Pan.

However, Pan also pointed2 out that the overall quality of China's engineering education is not very satisfactory. "If we can solve the problem of education, Chinese engineers will be undoubtedly3 popular", concluded Pan.
