Chinanews, Beijing, November 5 – After 10 years’ preparation, the feasibility report on building of the Beijing-Shanghai Express Railway was finally approved by the State Council of China, and the project will be launched very soon, and it will be completed by 2010, to present a 1,318-km railway.
It will only take 5 hours to travel from Shanghai to Beijing or vice1 versa, via the Beijing-Shanghai Express Railway, as the express trains will run a the speed of at least 300 km per hour. The total investment on the project will be more than 100 billion yuan, only following the Three Gorges2 Dam across the Yangtze River. There will be 21 stations along the Beijing-Shanghai Express Railway. It will have the capacity of transporting 160 million passengers from both directions in a year. Thus current ordinary railway will be able to be used for shipping3 goods. The cost of traveling by Shanghai-Beijing Express Railway, about 600-800 yuan, will be more expensive than by ordinary train, but cheaper than by air.
