A gallery to the memory of Jewish refugees in Shanghai during WWII has opened in Hongkou District of Shanghai.
一家纪念二战期间犹太人难民的画廊在上海虹口对外开放。
Opened on Monday, the gallery shows paintings and sculpture depicting1 the lives of Jewish refugees in Shanghai in the 1930s and the 1940s.
A total of 30 oil paintings are exhibited in the gallery. Some Chinese traditional paintings will be added to the gallery. Head of the Gallery Zhang Ping said the artists spent two years reading historical material and creating the paintings.
Shanghai accommodated about 20,000 Jewish refugees fleeing from Nazi2 persecution3. Many of them lived in the Tilanqiao area of Hongkou District.
The gallery was opened for free, and visitors can make appointments through mobile phone platforms.
