Chinanews, Beijing, February 28 – According to Yin Hong, vice1 president of the School of Journalism2 and Communication of Tsinghua University, China's movie production has increased by 370% in the last 5 years, much more than any other sector3 in the cultural industry.
Yin released the information at the “2007 China Cultural Industry Development Trend Briefing”on February 27. Besides the hike of the amount of movies made in China, the movie box-office value also hit a new high of 2.62 billion yuan in 2006, a 291% growth compared with 2003. Statistics show that it has kept increasing by 44.1% every year since 2003. The Chinese movie industry's net profit has also leaped by 260%. “Only 30% of movies in cinemas are made in China, but from this 30% has come 50% of the total profit,” said Yin.
