Chinanews, Beijing, March 10 – Currently, most Chinese movies shown in cinemas are directed by Zhang Yimou, Feng Xiaogang and Chen Kaige, which has caught the attention of Ye Hongming, a CPPCC National Committee member, who calls for the making of a“Movie Promotion1 Law”.
“We have achieved a lot in movie making since the beginning of the reform and opening-up, but the whole movie industry has paralyzed, including production, distribution and cinemas,” said Ye. Ye believes that the backward cinema administration system should be blamed. “The division of responsibilities is not clear in such a system. For example, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television is supposedly to be directly in charge of the movie industry, but not to be responsible for its current situation. The Ministry2 of Culture is supposed not to exercise administration over movie production,, but to be responsible for the decline of domestic movie industry,”said Ye. In the US, movie production tops all the trades in the culture industry, with a greater output value than the aviation industry. There is a great potential for movie market in China, but the domestic movie industry has always been slow.
