Chinanews, Hong Kong, June 22 – In 1227, one of the greatest Mongolian emperors Genghis Khan died near Liupanshan Mountain. His legendary1 life has since become a mystery for the later generations. This year marks the 780th death anniversary of the Mongolian emperor. Recently, the 36th grandchild in the Genghis Khan family Bao Liying publicized a trilogy depicting3 the lives of her royal ancestors. The trilogy, The Mongolian Empire, focuses on the lives of the three Mongolian leaders in her family, Genghis Khan, Badu, and Kublai Khan. The novel reveals many stories that were unknown to the public before, the Hong Kong-based Wen Wei Po reported.
The first part of the trilogy narrates4 the legendary life of Genghis Khan, the founder5 of the Mongolian Empire. It traces the big events happening in Genghis Khan’s life and how he turned a small nation into one of the biggest empire in the world at that time.
As everyone knows, Kublai Khan established the Yuan Dynasty (1279 - 1368) in Chinese history. The author tries to faithfully depict2 the historical changes occurring in the later half of the 13th century. In the novel, Kublai Khan is portrayed6 as an emperor who has happiness and sorrows, just like the ordinary people. In narrating7 the lives of the three emperors, the book also depicts8 the nomadic9 culture and the features of the grassland10.
The author of the book, Bao Liying, is the 36th grandchild in the Genghis Khan family. Since she was a small child, Bao had always been fascinated by the great deeds achieved by her forefathers11. She started to write the book 18 years ago when she was still a student in Peking University. After she graduated from college, she began to collect information and visited historical sites related with the lives of her forefathers. In writing the novel, the author tries to bring back to life a part of the history that might have vanished from people’s memories.
