Chinanews, Beijing, July 10 – This summer vacation, many Beijingers have decided1 to study classic Chinese culture, including literature, history and lifestyle.
Hu Yuxin, the president of a network enterprise in Beijing, will take part in a history class at Peking University in August. He doesn’t want to show off his knowledge by taking the class, but to feel the spirit of classic Chinese culture, which can be very useful to his business. Besides, he will make new friends in class. Classic Chinese literature and related readings have also topped the bestseller list in Beijing for a very long period of time. For example, Deciphering the “Analects”, and Appreciating the “Three Kingdoms” are two of the most popular ones. Even elementary school kids have started to read classics like the Analects. College students put on traditional Han-style clothes at graduation ceremonies. It is said that several college students in the US have decided to wear traditional Han-style clothes to commemorate2 Confucius. However, some scholars believe it is only a fad3 for Beijingers to fall in love with classic Chinese culture, and fad never lasts long. Besides, it takes much greater effort than reading classics to save Chinese culture from loss.
