Chinanews, Beijing, October 19 – “China should restore the landscape and plantation1 of the Yuanmingyuan Garden, and rebuild about 10% of the buildings there,” said Wang Zhili, the former deputy director of the Yuanmingyuan Garden Society of China.
Wang said this at the International Seminar to Celebrate the 300th Anniversary of the Completion of the Yuanmingyuan Garden. Wang believes the renovation2 of the Yuanmingyuan Garden will not only help the researchers on the culture and architecture of the Qing Dynasty in 1683 - 1840, but also make the garden a better memoir3 to history. The National Cultural Heritage Administration released a plan on the renovation of the Yuanmingyuan Garden in 2000, saying that 10% of the buildings in the Yuanmingyuan Garden would be rebuilt; however, the plan has not been well implemented4 so far. This seminar is the first seminar on the research, protection and development of the Yuanmingyuan Garden, with 100-plus participants from all over the world. During the seminar, the first professional board on the research of the Yuanmingyuan Garden was founded.
