Chinanews, Beijing, Oct 26 – Yang Guoqiang, the father of Yang Huiyan, who is known as the richest woman in China, recently donated 60 million yuan to Peking University and Tsinghua University, each one receiving 30 million yuan. With this money, the two universities have established the Guohua Reward Fund.
On Oct 25, Tsinghua University received the contribution, while a day earlier, the contribution had arrived in Peking University. The donor1 was Yang Guoqiang, the father of Yang Huiyan, who was recently listed by Forbes as the richest person in China. The money will be kept as principal money and the investment gains made from the principal will be used as the rewarding fund. The rewarding fund totals 3 million yuan every year and the money will be used to reward scientific workers in the two universities who have made great contributions to the state, society and people with their scientific achievements. According to the agreement, the presidents from the two universities will be codirectors of the Guohua Reward Fund Appraising2 Committee. Yang recalled that while a small child, his parents had no money to send him to school. It was the state that paid him through school. “Now it's time for me to reciprocate3 to the society,” he said. Yang said he had always tried to keep a low profile in his life. What he wanted was that he could do something for the society. He thanked the two universities to give him the chance to make his dream come true. He hoped that he could do more things for the two universities in future.
