Chinanews, Beijing, Dec. 20 – China has 1.205 billion TV audiences that are above the age of four, the number increasing by 90 million compared with that of 2002 and doubling the number twenty years ago, according to the 2007 National TV audience sampling survey result issued by China Central Television on Wednesday.
The survey shows that Chinese people's favorite programs are Xin Wen Lian Bo (CCTV prime1 time news) and Jiao Dian Fang2 Tan3 (Focus Interview). Of the top 20 favorite programs picked up by TV audiences, eighteen are produced by CCTV and the rest of the two programs are the “Happy Camp” ( an entertainment TV program produced by Hunan Cable4 TV Station) and the “Legendary Stories” produced by Jiangxi Cable TV Station. The survey shows that the top ten social issues that concern the public most are (as placed in order of priority) - medical services, public order, education, 2008 Olympic Games, food and drug safety, caring for the old, anti-corruption, migrant workers, Taiwan question, and legal aid. TV has become the most popular media form among Chinese people, with, as the survey shows, 95% of them watching TV everyday or almost everyday. In addition to TV, Chinese people also often use other media forms in their daily life, including newspapers, books, magazines, radios and the Internet. The survey also shows that about 99% of Chinese families have a TV set, with one quarter of them having two TV sets. At present, only 7% of Chinese families still have a monochrome television set—a dramatic5 drop from five years ago. Over 94% of Chinese families use TV sets that have a remote controller, increasing by 20% compared with five years ago.
