| Chinanews, Beijing, January 5 – Peking University is the hottest university as a key word in online search engines, the second and third being Tsinghua and Wuhan universities.
With 581,000 links relevant to the key word “Peking University” in Chinese on Baidu (one of the most popular search engines in China), Peking University is undoubtedly1 the “hottest”of its kind in China, and there are 505,000 and 392,000 links pointing to Tsinghua and Wuhan universities respectively.
The result of search engines reflects that it is easier for comprehensive universities and universities of social sciences to gain the general public's attention than those of natural sciences or technologies. In fact, the top-10 “hot” universities on Baidu are all comprehensive universities like Peking University.
Peking and Tsinghua are also considered as the two universities that contributed the most to scientific research as well as higher education in China in 2006.
