Mar1.8 - A pupil at Grade Five has been found to inflict2 revenge on his father by hurting his half-sister frequently with a pencil. Her father has abandoned her and her mother. As a matter of fact, over 30% of children in single-parent families have psychological problems or abnormal behaviors for lack of family care. To light of this, the local departments concerned in Yuzhong District, Chongqing, call for divorced young parents to give more attention to their children.
A survey last semester showed that, among 3,986 students from five primary and junior high schools, 541, or 13.7%, were from single-parent families. In some schools and classes, children from single-parent families were over half. The survey showed that among children from single-parent families, only 9% experienced good living conditions, 51% fairly good, while 39% extremely poor. What was worse, some students couldn’t afford the basic tuition. Consequently, more than 30% of children of single-parent families suffer a lot in both in mind and body. Their moods change frequently, so they have a serious sense of inferiority and suffer from mental strain and stress. Such students usually have bad habits and are not willing to listen to their parents or teachers. Officials with the education committee in Yuzhong District say that modern people pursue a high-quality life and happy marriage, but their hopes often result in a higher rate of divorce and greater hurt to the children than before. It will be better if divorced parents try all means to establish a new family life with their children, enabling them to enjoy the care and love from the family.
