Chinanews, Taiyuan, Sept. 22 – A survey launched by judicatory authorities in Shanxi Province shows that 79.3% of the juvenile1 delinquents2 commit crimes mainly for money.
Some 27% of these juvenile delinquents had got little supervision3 from their families, and they committed crimes in order to possess others' properties illegally. The first three crimes are theft, robbery and plunder4.
Zhang Hong, 17, was addicted5 to drugs for years. In order to raise money to buy heroine, he and his confederates robbed several people, and once they seized 50 thousand yuan ($6,310) at one stroke. "These people are corrupted6 officials, why are they so rich if not?" Zhang replied bluntly when he was investigated by local police. They had robbed 200 thousand yuan and squandered7 all of them.
Lu Chunxian, a prosecutor8 in Taiyuan, has studied the psychological motivation of these juvenile delinquents for years, and he thinks no one is forced to rob or steal because of poverty. They committed such crimes to entertain themselves with drinking, smoking or even drug taking. They had little knowledge of law, thus they thought they had just "made some mistakes," refusing to admit they had broken the law.
