| Chinanews, Beijing, December 12 – An online survey conducted by China Youth Daily and Tencent among 2,041 people reveals that 46.2% of the responders believe “today's youths are surrounded by Western culture and lifestyles”, and some 43.7% of them admit “most Chinese lack creativity”.
Lack of creativity does reflect itself in entertainment. Chinese youths have imported many “games”from other countries to bring some refreshment3 to themselves, like “free hug”, “flash out”, “podcast”, etc, but they have never been able to generate4 an entertainment of their own, based on unique Chinese tradition and culture, yet with modern spirit.
Just take the most popular “idol shows” as an example. In fact, uncountable “idol shows”have been held in 2006, and many youths dream of making a name for themselves though these shows, after the American Idols5 hit the US.
Besides the screens and stages, many Chinese youths entertain themselves with “imported”games like the “Mafia”. Actually, “Mafia” is so popular that it has become an industry in many big and medium cities in the country.
Though more than 70% of the responders find these imported entertainments “interesting and exciting”, 33.5% complain about simple imitation, and 30.2% express their anxiety about China's indigenous6 entertainments.
