Chinanews, Shijiazhuang, Dec. 22 - A woman who recently sought for artificial insemination operation in order to have her own baby later found that her “son” did not have a blood relation with its father. The woman sued the hospital for their malpractice and asked for 1.13 million yuan as compensation for their mental suffering, the Hebei Youth Daily reported.
The woman, Chen Li, and her husband, Wang Hui, got married in 2000 after they graduated from college. As she could not get pregnant for years, she and her husband went to the Hebei Medical Science University No.2 Hospital to take an artificial insemination operation. The operation proved successful as she soon became pregnant after the operation. In March this year, Chen gave birth to a son. Excited, the couple named their son Wang Hao. However, when doing a regular health check in June, the couple accidentally found that their son’s blood type was A, while their blood type was both O. Soon, the couple took their son to hospital to re-examine the baby’s blood type. And the test result confirmed that the blood type of their “son” was A. After reporting the issue to the hospital, the couple took the son to local public security bureau for a DNA1 test and the test result drove them mad as it said that Wang Hui was not the biological father of the child. Chen Li later recalled that when she received the operation, she was staying with another woman in the ward2. “The doctor must have mistaken the sperms3 of my husband and hers,” said Chen. On December 18, the couple filed a law suit against the hospital, demanding that the hospital pay 130,000 yuan for medical fees, transportation costs, nursing fees, compensation for wage deduction4 (because of their absence from work), and nutrition costs. In addition, they asked the hospital to pay them one million yuan as compensation for their mental suffering from the hospital’s malpractice.
