Chinanews, Beijing, January 15 – Spring Festival, or the Lunar New Year, is the time for family reunion in China; however, many poor college students in Beijing can't afford to go back home for the holiday.
Ye Wenbing, a student in Beijing Forestry1 University, will finally be able to take the trip back home with the help of China Foundation of Poverty Alleviation2. Ye is from the suburb of Xi'an, Shaanxi Province. He can't afford even the cheapest ticket for the home going trip. Most of those who are not as lucky as Ye will have to stay in Beijing, doing part-time jobs to earn life expenses for the next semester. According to a survey, over 63.8% of poor college students from the provinces spent their Spring Festival holiday on campus in Beijing on at least one previous occasion, and some 5.1% had not gone back home for 5 years or more. What's more, more than 37.9% of those who chose to stay to do part-time jobs during the last winter vacation were deceived by job agencies.
