Chinanews, Beijing, Jan. 29 – The Anholt-GMI World City Brands Index was unveiled last Friday, with Beijing ranking 43rd on the list and Shanghai 47th, among all the 60 cities entering the list.
The list was jointly1 made by Simon Anholt, an international expert on making brands index, and Global Market Institute Inc. (GMI), a market research firm based in Shanghai. This is the second time for such list to be published and the result was based on investigations2 of over 15,000 people aged3 18-64 from 20 countries in the world. Compared with last year, 30 more cities were included into the list this time for assessement, making the total number of cities reaching 60. The new cities entering the list this time include Shanghai, Melbourne, Vancouver, Copenhagen, Seattle and Las Vegas. Simon Anholt said that Beijing’s hosting of the 2008 Olympic Games would bring a far-reaching positive impact to the city’s image in the world and such impact would be reflected more clearly in the upcoming Anholt-GMI World City Brands Index list published next year and the year after.
