Chinanews, Suzhou, January 31 – Suzhou's history dates back to some 2,500 years ago, and its city original layout is amazingly well-preserved. Local government has recently conducted a plan to refurbish its 1,200-some old streets and alleys1 to protect its ancient look in a sustainable way.
The refurbishing project will last at least 4 years, and directly benefit the 390,000 -some residents living in these old streets and alleys. These old streets and alleys have served as the “blood vessels” of Suzhou as the “floating city” since thousands of years ago, and their classic style have always been part of the Suzhou spirit.
