Kurdish authorities in Iraq are accusing the Islamic State of launching a chemical weapons attack against Kurdish fighters.
伊拉克库尔德当局指责伊斯兰国在对库尔德战士发动的袭击中使用化学武器。
The Kurdistan Region Security Council says the alleged1 chemical attack took place on January 23rd on a road running between Iraq's second-largest city, Mosul, and the Syrian border.
Video provided by the council shows a truck racing2 down a road, white smoke pouring out of it, after it came under heavy fire from Peshmerga fighters.
Peshmerga fighters later found around 20 gas canisters after the truck was disabled.
Kurdish lawmaker Adil Nouri is calling for an international investigation3.
"The IS has used chlorine gas in attacking Peshmerga troops. This gas has been classified under the list of chemical weapons, so we call upon international forums4 and organizations to conduct an immediate5 investigation within a week. They should help Iraqis to get rid of such evil."
However, there has been no independent confirmation6 of the Kurds' claim so far.
This isn't the first time the Islamic State has been accused of using chemical weapons.
Iraqi officials are still looking into reports Islamic State fighters were using chlorine gas during battles last year.
