South Korean President Park Geun-hye said Friday that there is no reason not to hold a summit meeting with Kim Jong Un, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
韩国总统朴槿惠周五表示,没有理由不与朝鲜民主主义人民共和国最高领导人金正恩举行峰会。
"If the irrigation gate to North Korea (DPRK)'s nuclear issue resolution is opened and the improvement for South-North relations makes progress, there is no reason not to hold summit," Park said in a
joint1 written interview with eight member news agencies of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) that was unveiled by her office.
Park said she had
reiterated2 her position that any form of inter-Korean talks is possible if the dialogue helps open a way to peace and reunification on the Korean Peninsula.
The South Korean president, however,
noted3 a precondition for her summit with the DPRK leader, saying that the DPRK should come to a forward-looking, sincere dialogue table and show its
sincerity4 and practice will.
Her comments indicated the need for building trust between the two Koreas by fulfilling the agreements reached on Aug. 25 after marathon talks between top-level military
advisors5.
Tensions soared on the peninsula in August after
landmine6 blasts in border areas and a rare exchange of
artillery7 fire across the border, pushing the two Koreas to the
brink8 of armed conflict.
