韩国前总统李明博周三在其首次庭审中露面,他被指控犯下贪污、受贿以及挪用公款。
Dressed in black suit and white shirt, Lee entered the courtroom at the Seoul Central District Court in Seoul, holding a document envelope on his hand.
Lee, who had served the five-year
presidency5 from early 2008, was taken into
custody6 since March 22 for multiple corruption charges.
The conservative president was charged with taking about 10 million U.S. dollars in
bribes7 and
embezzling8 tens of millions of U.S. dollars in DAS, a local
auto9 parts manufacturer which
prosecutors10 believed is actually owned by Lee under the borrowed name of his brother.
Lee said in a prepared statement, taken from the envelope, that prosecutors'
indictment11 on his charges was excessive,
reiterating12 his claim that DAS belongs to his brother.
He also denied the charge of receiving
bribe3 from Samsung Group, the country's biggest family-run
conglomerate13, calling it a "shock and insult" to him.
