Chinese President Xi Jinping left Beijing on Thursday for a state visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

中国国家主席习近平周四飞离北京前往朝鲜进行国事访问。

At the invitation of Kim Jong Un, chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK, Xi will visit the country from Thursday to Friday.

This will be the first visit to the DPRK by the top leader of the Communist Party of China and China's head of state in 14 years.

In a signed article published on the DPRK's mainstream¹ media one day before his state visit, Xi Jinping expressed his willingness to work hand-in-hand with the DPRK to chart the course of China-DPRK relations and open a new chapter for their traditional friendship.

Xi said China will unswervingly support Chairman Kim in leading the DPRK to implement² the new strategic line and focus on developing the economy and improving people's livelihood³.

Xi also voiced China's readiness to join hands with the DPRK to work together for the realization⁴ of lasting⁵ peace and stability in the region.
