Chinanews, Beijing, November 9 – According to President of the Supreme1 People's Court, Xiao Yang, China is still not ready to abolish death sentence.

“China will keep death sentence in the near future, but there will also be strict limitations to make sure that justice will not be abused, ”said Xiao on November 7, at the 5th National Criminal Adjudication Conference.

Death sentence with reprieve2, which is an innovation of China, will definitely play a more important part in cracking down on crime and in preventing wrongful convictions. It will be SPC’s responsibility to review all the death penalty cases before execution. Only those who have committed the most heinous3 crime will be sentenced to death, and the convicts who surrender themselves to the police and confess their crimes will be excluded.

The protection of the victims’ litigation rights will be another focus of China’s legal system building, and perhaps one of the most important aspects in realizing social justice and social stability. Furthermore, it is of the same importance to guarantee the victims a secure life, and the formulation of related regulations should be started as soon as possible.
