Chinanews, Beijing, July 25 - China will send its navy fleet, including SS Guangzhou (SS No.168), one of its most advanced missile destroyers, and SS Weishanhu (SS No.887), a supply ship, to Europe to take part in the joint1 maneuvers2 with the fleets of Britain, Spain and France.
The fleet left Sanya on July 25, heading for St. Petersburg in Russia, where the Year of China is observed at present. This will be the first official visit of the PLA navy to the city. After that, the fleet will visit Portsmouth in Britain,, Cadiz in Spain and Toulon in France, where joint maneuvers will be held. SS Guangzhou is designed and made by China. It is one of the 3rd-generation missile destroyers, with a total displacement3 of 5,850 tons. It is equipped with modern antiaircraft, antivessel and counter-electronic weapons. SS Weishanhu is much bigger, with a total displacement of 20,000 tons. The fleet will travel across the Pacific, the Indian Ocean, the North Atlantic, and 16 channels and straits. It will take 87 days to complete the journey.
