Oct. 31 - Chinese President Hu Jintao said on Tuesday that China will continue to play a constructive1 role in the realization2 of lasting3 peace in the Middle East.
"China is ready to work together with the international community including Jordan, to continue to play a constructive role in easing tension in the Middle East and realizing comprehensive, equitable4 and lasting peace in the region," said Hu when holding talks with Jordanian King Abdullah II Bin5 Al-Hussein.
Hu said China supports the international efforts on promoting peace in the Middle East, including the Arab Peace Initiative, and hopes relevant parties would, in accordance with relevant resolutions of the United Nations and the principle of "land for peace", properly resolve conflict through dialogues and negotiation6 and realize peaceful coexistence.
King Abdullah said China is devoted7 to promoting the cause of world peace and development. Jordan appreciated China's constructive efforts on promoting the Middle East peace process and hoped that China will continue to play an active role in finding a solution to the issue.
He said the priority for now is to promote the negotiation between Palestine and Israel towards concrete achievements.
On bilateral8 relations, Hu hailed Abdullah's remarkable9 contribution to promoting China-Jordan friendship and appreciated the adherence10 of the King and the Jordanian government to the one-China policy and their support for China's reunification cause.
Hu proposed four aspects of measures to further develop China-Jordan relations, including deepening political relations, expanding economic and trade cooperation, widening areas of cooperation, and promoting exchanges in culture, education and other fields.
Hu said China will import more products from Jordan, make it easier to promote Jordanian products in China, and encourage and support cooperation between enterprises in both countries in trade, investment, services and logistics.
King Abdullah said China has provided selfless help for Jordan over the years, a fact deeply respected by the people of Jordan. Jordan has always seen it as priority to develop relations with China and hopes to continue to consolidate11 and strengthen the friendly cooperation with China, the King added.
He said Jordan will firmly adhere to the one-China policy and support China's reunification cause.
He said Jordan hopes to improve cooperation with China in the areas of economy, trade and energy and see the early opening of air links between the two countries.
After the talks, the two heads of state attended the ceremony of the signing of economic and technology cooperation agreements between the two sides.
King Abdullah is on a four-day state visit to China at the invitation of President Hu. He will meet with Premier12 Wen Jiabao on Wednesday. Besides Beijing, he will also visit China's economic hub, Shanghai.
