"Hello, Darla," the dentist said. "How's my favorite little niece doing on her special day?"

He placed her in the dentist's chair. "Let's see those pearly whites!" he said, opening her mouth. "Ouch!" he cried as she bit his finger. "Grumpy, are we? I know what you want! You want your present."

"I get a fishy¹!" Darla shouted.

Looking into the plastic bag, Dr. Sherman knew he didn't have good news for his niece. "Oh, no—poor little guy," he said to himself.

Nemo was floating upside down in the bag.

"He's dead!" the Tank Gang moaned from the tank.

"Must've left your present in the car," the dentist told Darla, trying to hide Nemo. "I'll go get it."

As Dr. Sherman moved the bag behind his back, Nemo opened his eyes.

"He's still alive!" the Tank Gang cheered. "Why's he playing dead?" one of the fish asked.

The dentist headed toward the bathroom. "He's gonna get flushed down the toilet!" Gill said happily. "He's gonna get outta here!"

But then the dentist edged over to a trash can.

"Not the trash can!" the Tank Gang cried. "Hey!" Nigel stuck his beak² through the window. "Hey! I found Superfish!"

"Where's Nemo?" Marlin called from inside Nigel's beak. "Where is he?"

"Dentist! Dentist!" the Tank Gang shouted.

"Nigel!" Marlin ordered. "Get in there!" He grabbed Nigel's tongue and, using it like the rudder on a boat, steered³ him inside.

"What the—" Dr. Sherman said, surprised to see a pelican⁴ coming into his office. He lunged for Nigel, but they collided right over Darla where she lay in the dentist's chair.

The dentist dropped the bag onto the dental tray. Pop! The bag sprang a slow leak.

With Darla right above him, Nemo continued to play dead.

Nigel and Marlin saw Nemo in the bag—dead. Marlin froze in shock.

"Gotcha!" Dr. Sherman exclaimed. He held Nigel by the beak, keeping it tightly shut.

From inside Nigel's mouth, Marlin yelled, "Nemo!"

Nemo heard his father's voice. "Daddy?" he whispered.

Marlin didn't hear Nemo, and the dentist shoved Nigel out the window.

Gill knew they had to do something—fast. Nemo was running out of air.

"Quick!" Gill shouted. "To the top of Mount Wannahockaloogie!" He motioned for the others to go into action.

In the chair, Darla began to swing Nemo's bag back and forth⁵. "Fishy! Fishy!" she sang.

Nemo was about to pour out through the widening hole in the bag.

In the tank, Bloat lifted a corner of the volcano. Then he inflated⁶ himself and nodded to Gill. He had the volcano positioned in just the right way to send Gill in Nemo's direction. Gill swam into the mouth of the volcano.

Jacques turned on the air valve and whoosh⁷, Gill was launched into the air. He flew behind Dr. Sherman and landed right on Darla's head.

"Aaagghhh!" Darla screamed.

Nemo fell onto a tray and landed on a dental mirror.

Gill flipped⁸ off Darla's head and onto the tray. "Tell your dad I said hi," he said when he spotted⁹ Nemo.

Gill smacked¹⁰ the mirror with his tail and sent Nemo sailing into the spit sink.

Nemo slid down the drain.

The dentist saw Nemo just as he was disappearing. "Whoa," he said. Then he picked Gill up off the tray and put him back in the tank.

The gang cheered as Gill entered the tank.

"Is he gonna be okay, Gill?" Gurgle asked.

"Don't worry," Gill said. "All drains lead to the ocean."

Nemo tumbled through the drainpipes into the water treatment plant. He slipped around corners and bends. Finally there was a murky¹¹ light at the end of the tunnel. Nemo reached the end of a drainage pipe on the harbor floor.

"Daddy!" he cried.

谢尔曼医生往塑料袋里看了一下，意识到他不能给他的侄女带来什么好消息。“哦，不——可怜的小家伙。”他自言自语。

尼莫头朝下地漂在袋子里。

“他死了!”鱼缸帮在鱼缸里呻吟着。

“我肯定把你的礼物落在车里了，”牙医告诉达拉，想要把尼莫藏起来。“我去拿一下。”

就在谢尔曼医生把袋子放到背后时，尼莫睁开了眼睛。

“他还活着!”鱼缸帮欢呼起来。“他为什么要装死?”一条鱼问道。

牙医朝卫生间走去。“他会被扔进马桶冲走!”吉哥高兴地说。“他要离开这儿了!”

但是就在这时，牙医慢慢地挪向了垃圾桶。

“别扔进垃圾桶!”鱼缸帮大叫。“喂!”大嘴哥把嘴伸进窗户。“喂！我找到超级鱼了!”

“尼莫在哪儿?”马林在大嘴哥的嘴里叫着，“他在哪儿?”

“牙医！牙医!”鱼缸帮喊道。

“大嘴哥!”马林下令道，“快进去!”他抓住大嘴哥的舌头，把它当成船上的舵，引导他进去。

“怎么——”谢尔曼医生看见一只鹈鹕飞进他的办公室，感到非常惊讶。他朝着大嘴哥猛冲过去，但是他们恰好撞到了达拉，她正躺在牙医的椅子上。

牙医把袋子放到托盘上。砰！袋子突然裂开了一条小缝。

达拉就在他上面，尼莫继续装死。

大嘴哥和马林看见尼莫躺在袋子里——死了。马林震惊得呆住了。

“抓住你了!”谢尔曼医生大喊。他抓住大嘴哥的嘴巴，把它合得紧紧的。

马林在大嘴哥的嘴里大叫：“尼莫!”

尼莫听到了父亲的声音。“老爸?”他小声叫道。

马林没有听见尼莫的声音，牙医把大嘴哥从窗口赶出去了。

吉哥知道他们必须做点什么——而且要快。尼莫的空气快没了。

“快点!”吉哥大喊，“到瓦纳胡克落基山山顶上!”他示意其他人赶紧行动。

达拉坐在椅子上，开始左右摇晃装有尼莫的袋子。“小鱼！小鱼!”她唱着。

尼莫差点从袋子越变越大的洞里流出来。

在鱼缸里，猪猪举起火山的一角。然后，他鼓足了劲儿，朝吉哥点了点头。他调整了火山的位置，这样正好可以把吉哥送往尼莫的方向。吉哥游到了火山口。

虾虾打开气阀，气阀呼呼作响，吉哥被发射到了空中。他从谢尔曼医生身后飞过去，正好落在了达拉头上。

“啊啊啊啊!”达拉高声尖叫。

尼莫掉到托盘上，落在口腔镜上。

吉哥从达拉头上跃过，落到了托盘上。“代我向你老爸问好。”他发现尼莫时说道。

吉哥用尾巴拍打口腔镜，让尼莫飞进漱口的水槽。

尼莫从排水管滑了下去。

牙医看着尼莫消失了。“哇。”他说。然后他把吉哥从托盘上捡起来，放回水族箱里。

吉哥进水族箱时，鱼缸帮们欢呼起来。

“他没事吗，吉哥?”胆小鬼问。

“别担心，”吉哥说，“条条水管通大海。”

尼莫在排水管里翻滚着，到了污水处理厂。他滑过许多角落和弯道。最后，隧道的尽头出现了昏暗的光。尼莫到达了港口底部排水管的尽头。

“老爸!”他大叫。
