At last, in the friendly match against Uruguay in October 1995, Ronaldo scored 2 goals, which enabled¹ Brazil to win the game. Ronaldo was then truly established in the Brazilian team. The next thing for Ronaldo to do as a regular national player was to win the gold medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atalanta. Although he was still recovering from his knee injury, he could still scored 5 goals during the games but Brazil could only get a bronze medal at last. The name 'Ronaldinho' was given to Ronaldo during Olympics.

He then flied to Bolivia to play for his country at the Copa America 1997.

Before the Copa America, Ronaldo and his national team members had to come to France to play for Le Tournoi in France. Owing⁵ to the regulation of the game, Brazil could only get a second place though she had not lost any match. But it was a total different in Bolivia. Brazil entered the final with many goals, and defeated Bolivia in 29th June to win the Copa America. Which she didn't get for the past 8 years.
